A Scout is Helpful
In the early morning of Nov 4th, 18 of our Scouts walked door-to-door in the Greystone community of Boynton Beach, placing bags on each doorstep. This kicked off the first weekend of the BSA’s annual Scouting for Food service project. A week later, 28 Scouts returned to retrieve food donations, collecting 675 lbs of food. This set a Pack record for the largest turnout and the largest amount of food collected for Scouting for Food.
On Sunday, Pack 100 held two events in honor of Veterans Day. In the morning, the Pack 100 Color Guard performed flag ceremonies at both morning church services. Many churchgoers were impressed by the Color Guard’s reverent performance. Following the second service, the Pack served barbecue chicken to the congregation. With the donations collected, the Pack purchased twenty wreaths for Wreaths Across America.
In the evening, Pack 100 honored nine Veterans who served in the United States Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force. With their help, our Scouts retired approximately one-hundred worn out and tattered American flags. Heavy rain arrived during the ceremony, but we continued without interruption. Our Scouts and guests took shelter underneath our large canopy, and golf umbrellas were in use by the Veterans. A US Navy veteran and Eagle Scout received the honor of retiring the final flag. Our Veterans were extremely impressed by the Scouts’ patriotism, reverence for the flag, and for handling the change in weather unfazed. Great job!
